EVER LEARNING

"Mom, my bladder is full."
Bladder? What happened to "I have to go potty"?

"Why are you so tired?"
"Cuz you were in my bed all night you little munster!"
"I'm not a munster! I'm a human!"
"Oh you are?"
"Yes! You know that! You're a human too!"

"Mom, are we on planet earth?"
"Yes."
"Right now?"

BIG WORDS :)

We went swimming in the pool. Ava accidentally got dunked. :)

She came up screaming, "THAT WAS NOT NECESSARY!!!"

STORM

At midnight last night, Donald got an alert on his phone for a tornado warning. We hauled the kids out of bed, grabbed the dog and headed to the downstairs bathroom. In light of recent events, we were a bit paranoid. At first the warning went until 12:15 am but then changed to 1 am. So, we spent an hour in the bathroom.
The unknown can be scary. Sitting there with my babies and my hubby made me reflect a bit, hold them a little tighter and hope for sunshine in the morning.

AFRAID OF THE DARK

All of a sudden, a couple of nights ago, Ava was afraid of the dark. We were up for hours with her, trying to get her to sleep. All the lights on in the house weren't enough for her that night.
Last night I tried to help her to pray that God would help her to not be afraid.
"Ava did you know that you can pray to God for help so that you won't be afraid of the dark? Do you want me to help you?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because it's not easy...and I'm still little."
"Well you can just say it in your heart or in your head."
"How about in my head?"
"Ok, can I hear what you say in your head?"
"Help me to not be afraid, God. Help to know how to not be afraid." (pause) (gasp) "He said he would help me!!! Yay!!" (excited clapping)

She slept soundly until we hauled her out of bed at midnight because of a severe storm. More on that later.

I'm thankful for experiences like these that help me. Children can teach us so much.

HIS WAY, HIS TIME

It's amazing how God just works things out. My heart is happy, anxious and hopeful for my dear friend today. You never know what life will bring but we know that whatever it is, it will be the best for us. I'll think of you today...and tomorrow...and the day after that. I'm thankful to be your friend.

A LIST OF THOUGHTS

  • Jaina yells "Mama!" from her crib and her carseat now when she wants to get my attention.
  • Although crawling is still her favorite mode of transportation, she's walking a lot more.
  • When Ava goes opens her door after her nap, she bounces up and down and says, "sissysissysissysissy"
  • When Ava laughs, Jaina laughs - I love watching them interact.
  • Sometimes they fight - like when they sit by each other in the shopping cart at HEB.
  • Will she really be 1 next week? Where has the time gone?
  • Ask her how old she is and she'll hold up one little finger. :)
  • Life is good...so good.
  • Motherhood is not always roses. Sometimes you need to escape. Have you ever found yourself locked in a dark closet just enjoying the silence? This mama has. :)
  • Why is it so hard to exercise???
  • Really ready to be done with the whole "baby phase."
  • Eating clean and healthy is not fun but you realize how good it makes you feel after you treat yourself to Pizza Shack and feel sick the next morning.
  • I love that Ava can get her pjs on, brush her teeth and go potty all by herself.
  • We bought tickets! Can't wait to get on that plane to go and see my sister. It's been 3 years since we've been to see them and it's high time that we did. 10 whole days in Bozeman and then on to Portland! We plan on having the best four weeks. Convention....picking blackberries...cool Tillamook weather...ocean beaches...good friends...family...walking the hill at Grandma and Grandpa Waldo's...maybe some fishing...driving the Wilson River Highway...mountains... McMinnville...good coffee...driving by our old house...
  • Typing this is making me homesick.
  • Does anyone else find Pinterest addicting and overwhelming at the same time?
  • Housework is n.e.v.e.r.e.n.d.i.n.g.
  • Ilovecrafting.

SILLY

"Don't tell anyone. It's a secret. I'm going to get a baby dolphin for my birthday!!"

After falling and tripping all over the place and smacking her face on the cupboard.
"Aaah!! The floor is slipping me all over!!"

Swimming at the pool:
"Daddy!! You're like a humpback whale!!"

"Ava, can you please bring this bag downstairs?"
"Why do I have to do all the jobs?"
"Because it's your responsibility."
"Responsibility? Responsibility."

Every night:
"Sleep tight.
Don't let the bedbugs bite.
Sweet dreams.
I love you more than ________."

"Have you ever found a baboon in your bed, Mom?"

MOTHER'S DAY

I think that this is my all-time favorite picture of these two together. I just can't believe that I'm lucky enough to be a mother to the most (in my biased opinion) beautiful girls in the world. :)

CONTRARY

The corn on the cob had just started boiling when Ava came down from her nap. I turned off the burner.
"Mom! Why did you turn off the stove!?"
"Because it's done cooking."
"But Mom! It's too slimy!"
"Mom! It's too much corn juice on your face!"
"Mom! Why are are having corn? I don't like corn!"

Ava loves corn. Why is it that three going on four year olds are so contrary? Question everything and argue about the smallest things even when they are totally wrong?

"Why did you put my toys on the table!?"
"Why did you use your yellow thing? I thought you were using the red one!"
"Why did Daddy put two bands on this cupboard?"
"This corn is too juicy! The beans have juice too!"

I guess life is hard when you're 3 going on 4. :)

JAINA: 11 MONTHS

  • 23 lbs
  • 18 month clothes
  • It seems like she's changed so much in the past week!
  • She's known the sign for "all done" for awhile now and it's nice that she can tell me that she's done eating.
  • Just the other day, I asked her if she wanted more. She looked down at her little hands, put her fingers together and signed "more"!! (she hasn't done it again since then)
  • She's really taken to Ava's baby doll. She hugs her tight and pats her on the back. Last night she slept with a baby. It was so cute to see her snuggled up with it tucked tightly under her arm.
  • She's working on a bunch of teeth. She has 8 so far and she'll soon have two more on both top and bottom.
  • I showed her how to use her little lion push cart and within a day she was tentatively standing to push it. She grins and laughs as she pushes it all over the house.
  • She gave me a real kiss complete with a lip smack :)
  • She still loves to play with toilet paper and dog food rather than her toys.
  • It's so cute when she holds things up to her ear and says "ah!" for "hi" :)
  • Nights are better. She usually wakes sometime early in the morning but after a feeding she goes back to sleep and sleeps till about 7 am.
  • Sits forward facing in the car in a big girl car seat.
  • I love the little cowlick at the nape of her neck that pushes all of her hair to the left. :)
  • She climbed up on the couch all by herself!!!
  • Even though she doesn't get the sounds right, she likes to copy the tone of sissy's voice.
  • Thinks is great fun to throw her own diaper away! I carry her and she carries the diaper and drops it into the garbage. :)
  • Loves Mommy and Daddy's juice - even the green ones. :)
  • Weaning this little one is going to be tough. I just know it.
